When we looked outside the JS3D office and found Skive's mammoth British Army campaign setting up a siege, we signed right up and marched off to fight a war on multiple fronts. With a complex blend of full CG linear pieces, real-time 3D game assets and cubical panoramics, we raided our complete arsenal and brought out the big guns to deal with our greatest challenge yet!

We were involved from the start of this job, performing consultancy for Skive regarding a lot of the technologies and technical issues likely to arise from attempting to seamlessly blend shot footage with CG elements and online ‘challenges’. As a result of this Jules was flown out to the desert in Kenya to act as CG supervisor for all aspects of the digital shoot.

A large aspect of the challenges given to us was the production of visual assets for Unity games. Unity is a next gen gaming framework, what this means is that it enables us to make very, very cool looking and playing games that work over the web, or downloaded, or on the iphone, or on a pc, or on a mac... you get the idea. Check about half way through the above montage to see one in action.

Points of note:
  • Huge project scope
  • Integration of GC into live-action
  • On-shoot CG supervision, including capture of high dynamic range (HDR) images for accurate recreation of the shoot lighting in CG
  • Marrying online CG up to Live-action commercials.
  • Accurate representation of real military hardware.
  • Real-time 3D environments / props and sets in flash.
  • Real-time 3D first person adventures in flash.
  • A mix of photo-real CG sequences as well as high quality interactive game assets.
